Un-saintly outfits

For this post I was inspired by Sacramento's (always) inspiring blog. When looking for devil or skull-related images I found another interesting blog called T-shirts et satanisme. This is one of the pleasures of blogging - finding out how much imagination people have!

Monochromatic

Despite the gorgeous day and rather high temperature for the season, I stick to fall colours of brown and gold hues.

Monday 6 August

Back from holiday, back to work. I realize now that I had a similar outfit here, not so long time ago. It means that I really like my blue Ikat  skirt from Old Navy and that my immediate memory is failing. Maybe I need some more holiday.

Centerpiece

I said it before, I don't like to change bags every day. When I did this I always forgot something, keys, card keys etc. Therefore my daily outfits are construed around the same bag, for about a week or more. This week my large red bag from the Trend was the inspirational element. Today, however the centerpiece was my HUGE ring by Kenneth Jay Lane

Purple and blue

Today I am wearing my Kenneth Jay Lane ring and necklace. He is probably my preferred jewellery artist to date. So creative and so wearable.  And so Net-a-Porter.

Mix non match

Nothing seems to match on what I am wearing today. I pulled everything  out of my closet, in a hurry, before leaving. I feel however comfortable and this is the essential.

Transparency

This is not about  Transparency International, the NGO that fights corruption worldwide. It is about unexpected transparent things I discovered. Chairs, heels, bags, necklaces. Does our life becomes more and more transparent for being surrounded by transparent things? We post about our lives, we appear on Google and other social media outlets. We can be seen and heard on Youtube. We blog about the way we dress, eat, live. Does this affect our privacy  or maybe we need less and less privacy in our lives?

Moi, today, in blue

Brilliant day. Sunny, blue sky and not a drop of humidity. A day to stay outside,  in a park, a picnic day. I wanted to walk to work ( yes, I can) but I was in a rush. I am wearing my vintage aventurine necklace, a gorgeous Victorian piece of jewellery. It is a Murano glass deep blue with golden sparkles that matches the deepness of the sky on this beautiful day.

Transition to Spring

Today I put on a chequered shirt, floral skirt, glittering shoes and a large silver bag, plus some accessories and left to work. Hmm, this looks like a transition between two seasons: winter up and spring below, told me a rather conservative person.

The Madonna Belt

Madonna is coming to the city and I wanted to buy tickets for her concert. A ticket is $300+.
OK, maybe I am not such a big fan.

After all my fondness for Madonna is not so much artistic as professional. At the end of '80 I was teaching French in a small international school in Kabul. Most of the students were  children of diplomats, nice but rather spoiled and showing  little interest in learning French. But everything changed when I came back from holliday sporting a studded belt. "Oh you wear a Madonna belt, how beautiful!" And so my prestige and authority improved considerably, thanks to this music and fashion icon.

I remembered this story after viewing Sacramento's post here.

A Sunny Day

Yesterday I decided upon this outfit, hoping that it will bring up a sunny day. Alas, it's raining.

My Life in Stripes

For years I was wary of stripes especially since I put some unwarranted weight on. I completely disagree with die hard fashionistas who wear anything even to their disadvantage only because it is in fashion. For example, I find that on most cases miniskirts on not so slim, not so young women look terrible. Ditto about very tight clothes on the above mentioned persons; ditto with low rise pants and midriff t-shirts.
I know fashion is a way to express ourselves but we shouldn’t be fashion slaves or prisoners. We should wear what it makes us feel better and at our best. It could be that some of the above mentioned may feel better in miniskirts and tight clothes and in the name of freedom of expression we should accept this. No, because there are persons with taste as well as tasteless. Like for food (don’t tell me that fast food is a proof of good taste) taste is something to learn, and it is not easy to do so.

What I wanted to say is that I feel completely comfortable and pretty in this stripe-based outfit! Exceptions exist, that confirm the rule.

Lanvin aujourd'hui

« Chez Laroche j'ai découvert la femme française, et, chez Saint Laurent, j'ai appris la volonté d'atteindre la perfection » Alber Elbaz

After several ups and downs La maison Lanvin gets a new start thanks to the creations of the very talented Alber Elbaz.  In addition to prêt a porter, maison Lanvin still creates children clothes, keeping alive the tradition in the spirit of Jeanne Lanvin. here

Travelling

I am travelling for both business and pleasure far away, to countries few people have been to, on the other side of the world. There is an indescribable pleasure in preparing a suitcase, leaving  an airport, moving from a hotel to another, meeting new people, and smelling the reddish earth.

In addition, the cherry on top is this clutch designed by Viktor & Rolf, the famous Dutch designers KLM  introduced as a new comfort bag. I heard that in the coming four years there will be sixteen different ones and hope to get them all!

Birthday evening

I had a birthday dinner yesterday evening. We went to a steakhouse and eat escargots (snails) and then a steak . It was so good that I forgot to take  pictures. The focus of my attention was however  the Montagne de Pyrenés or Patou, the dog of my dreams. There was a man with three such dogs on a bench in front of the restaurant. Children stopped to pet them, parents to talk with the owner. Everybody was enthralled with these very friendly dogs. The Montagne de Pyrenees was Belle in Belle et Sebastien which charmed my childhood as well as Capi, from Sans Famille the movie with Pierre Richard I watched not so long ago on DVD. If one day I will have a dog this will be. I will call mine either Aubisque like the Pyrenéean peak, or Capi. Or maybe I will have two such dogs.

I wore my new Sam Haskins printed T-shirt, I just got from Japan; a velvet-satin skirt, grey Prada Mary Janes and the silver Cambridge Satchel Company bag.

This is how it looked.
