The Lobster Dress

Yesterday the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala  celebrated the Schiaparelli-Prada exhibition.  Among the constellation of larger and smaller stars who attended the event, Anna Wintour, the British-born editor-in-chief  of American Vogue  stood apart. Her dress made by  Prada, was a golden reminiscence of the famous Lobster Dress Elsa Schiaparelli created in 1937. The lobster on the white Schiaparelli dress was designed by Salvador Dali himself. The dress won notoriety when another fashion icon of the day, Wallis Simpson ( the  American divorcee the future king of England renounced his throne for) modelled it for Vogue.
