The Last Summer Day

I went to the hairdresser today, clad in a bright pink and orange outfit. Suddenly a woman came to me and said "These are summer colours you wear and you look great". She made my day, of course and I realized that summer was gone.

One of my last purchases are two ikat style maxi skirts, one blue and one red, from Old Navy. Today I wore the blue one to work, styled with a blue blazer and striped tank and bag. I love maxi skirts and I am happy that this trend is hot right now.

Nothing seems to match on what I am wearing today. I pulled everything  out of my closet, in a hurry, before leaving. I feel however comfortable and this is the essential.

My Life in Stripes

For years I was wary of stripes especially since I put some unwarranted weight on. I completely disagree with die hard fashionistas who wear anything even to their disadvantage only because it is in fashion. For example, I find that on most cases miniskirts on not so slim, not so young women look terrible. Ditto about very tight clothes on the above mentioned persons; ditto with low rise pants and midriff t-shirts.

 I know fashion is a way to express ourselves but we shouldn’t be fashion slaves or prisoners. We should wear what it makes us feel better and at our best. It could be that some of the above mentioned may feel better in miniskirts and tight clothes and in the name of freedom of expression we should accept this. No, because there are persons with taste as well as tasteless. Like for food (don’t tell me that fast food is a proof of good taste) taste is something to learn, and it is not easy to do so.

What I wanted to say is that I feel completely comfortable and pretty in this stripe-based outfit! Exceptions exist, that confirm the rule.
